The SENPRO Performance Plates have been designed to help practitioners educate their clients on how to fuel for the work required!

In this article, I'll demonstrate how we translate this framework into a practical, customisable and highly visual coaching tool to help you educate your clients on what to eat and how much to eat.

I won't delve into what underpins the fuel for the work required framework, but to learn more, take a look at this article by Impey and colleagues here.

So why fuel for the work required?

Your clients fuelling requirements typically vary on a daily or even meal by meal basis. Appropriate fuelling strategies are therefore required to achieve optimal health, training adaptations, recovery and performance.

The Performance Plates

There are three types of plates and the typical use cases for each type of plate are described below. As you know, there's no one size fits all approach here, so it's important that you as the practitioner are able to tailor your recommendations according to your individual clients specific needs and preferences.

How to use Performance Plates in SENPRO

Performance Plates are configured on a per client basis and can be activated in your clients Planner as pictured below. To get to the Planner, go to Clients in the left menu, select the client, then click on the Planner tab.

Step 1

Click the Hide / Show toggle to start using Performance Plates.

Step 2

Configure the Performance Plates that are shown on High, Medium and Low Demand days by clicking the Settings cog. Here you can:

  • Remove default meals / snacks set by SENPRO

  • Add your own meals / snacks

Why set defaults? Setting the defaults for High, Medium and Low demand days will help speed up the process of building Performance Plates across your clients week.

Step 3

Using the dropdown located underneath the date, select the type of day.

This will pre-populate the day with the default Performance Plates.

Step 4

You can further customise the Performance Plates by clicking the dropdown as pictured below. Here you will be able to toggle quickly between High / Medium / Low Carb plates.

Step 6

You can view each plate in more detail by clicking the See Examples button. This will provide you and your clients with further information on the food groups as well as example recipes.

How will my clients view Performance Plates?

Performance Plates will be visible to your clients in their Planner. Your clients view of Performance Plates are very similar to yours, however they will not be able to configure their default Performance Plates as this process is driven by you as the practitioner.

Use cases

There are a number of ways you can use Performance Plates to help educate your clients.

Use Performance Plates as a visual coaching tool to discuss with clients in person or over a video call. Here you will be able to talk through the demands of their day / week and how Performance Plates can be configured to help them fuel for the work required.

Food photos are a great way to see what your clients plates look like at each meal. The Performance Plates will act as an excellent education tool which they can use when plating up their meal. You will be able to provide feedback easily as discussed in this article here.
